REGENERATION

"...I believe that I may help to destroy the callous complacence with which the majority of those at home regard the continuance of agonies which they do not share, and which they have not sufficient imagination to realise."

IOC THESIS FOR "COUNTER-ATTACK" BY SIEGFRIED SASSOON

Counter-attack, by Siegfried Sassoon, is an exposition of the magnitude of the horrors of war in the very midst of battle. The elements of the poem, such as poetic voice, structure, diction, imagery and tone, shed light on the idea of war that he tries to convey effectively. Yet subsequently, Sassoon’s intentions and the conclusion of the narrative poem alongside the graphic imagery and the introduction of a character to familiarize with, provides Sassoon with an opportunity to evoke sympathy within the readers.
